If you had forty minutes with your boss, what would you say, to make life better for you, for him (her?), for the company? For me, it’s all about the Internet. I deal in Online: pixels and words, and am overwhelmed by the inadequate perception and misunderstanding of these two elements when dealing with the Web.
I had the pleasure again of a brief meeting with my Guvn’r recently (aka the VC), and resorted as usual to babbling inanely, trying to get my point across in the short time we had. I feel dwarfed by endless corporate procedures, and that everyone except me has been invited in to some secret handshake of business processes. But I keep trying.
We covered a lot of ground: he’s a smart man, and I talk fast. Content, users, internal ‘stakeholders’, marketing and systems. And new ideas, lots of ideas. He believes we can do it better, but lacks actual power. I’m surprised he is as hamstrung as I am in this world of compliance and protocol, I thought the boss was the boss, and could do what he wants – of course it’s just not like that at all. I think he’s on my side – so maybe in the long term I will finally get my day. If so, I can make some magic happen. I know it, it’s just finding the right way to convince all these suit and tie bureaucrats. But like he said – “don’t lose the enthusiasm, we need that”.
Here’s the real world evidence that what I say is The Truth:
